BRIEF
Development in human society has many-sided process. At the individual level, it implies increased skill and capacity, greater freedom, creativity, self-discipline, responsibility and material well-being. The three facets of development include life sustenance, self esteem and freedom(UNDP/NPC 1997). In life sustenance development is concerned with the provision of basic needs, like food shelter and clothing.

Self-esteem is concerned with the feeling of self-respect and independence. Freedom on the other hand is described as freedom from the three evils of want, ignorance and squalor
No man is free if he cannot choose i.e. if he is imprisoned by living on the margin of subsistence with no education and skills. Thus development can occur when there has been an improvement in basic needs. When economic progress has contributed to a greater sense of self-esteem for the country and individuals within it and when material advancement has expanded the range of choice for individual.

This explained the reason why this organization (NCYD) is in existence. It seeks for development process that is responsive to social needs, significant reduction in abject poverty, promotes the development and utilization of human resources and skills and which is environmentally friendly and dynamic
